About service

Periodontology is a branch of dental treatment that involves the treatment of the periodontal tissues around the tooth (gums, periodontal ligament, root cementum, alveolar bone) and gum recessions. Periodontal disease is most often caused by improper dental and oral care skills, as well as a lack of regular professional oral hygiene. Bleeding, swollen, sensitive gums and bad breath are the first warning signs of problems.

Gum recession is a condition in which the gums recede noticeably from the teeth, exposing the neck of the teeth, due to frequent mechanical stimulus (e.g. using a toothbrush with too stiff bristles). The teeth appear visually elongated, more sensitive and the smile becomes unaesthetic.

Periodontal diseases

The main diseases of the periodontal tissues are gingivitis and periodontitis.

  • Gingivitis is the first stage of inflammation involving the gums. The gums start to bleed, become much more sensitive and swollen. Gingivitis is usually cured quickly with timely and effective non-surgical treatment.
  • Periodontitis - gingivitis that is not detected in time becomes more complicated as bacteria penetrate deeper tissues. This leads to periodontitis, a dangerous inflammation that even affects the jawbone. Periodontitis leads to abscesses, misaligned teeth, stumbling teeth and bad breath. Unfortunately, periodontitis is one of the most common causes of tooth loss.

More detailed information

We invite you to learn more about the treatment options for periodontal disease and gum recession:

  • Professional oral hygiene (PBH) - if the disease is detected early, an oral hygiene procedure that cleans the plaque under the gums is usually sufficient.
  • Curettage - if the plaque is deeper, deep cleaning of the gum pockets is needed.
  • Periosurgery - when periodontitis is very advanced and the deep tissues and jawbone are damaged, surgical intervention is needed. Removal of stones deep under the gums, tissues damaged by infection. Medication may be used to promote bone regeneration.
  • Gum recession - to combat gum recession, the gums are surgically corrected by pushing them back into position or by surgical gum augmentation using donor tissue or a gum substitute. This results in a harmonious, aesthetic smile.
